Ze is terug! Sien! Als een gratis add-on bij het nieuwe Fons & Lena patroon!
Kan je nog volgen? Nee? Dan vertel ik hier graag mee over mijn drie allereerste patronen: Lena, Fons & Sien.
Lena, Fons en Sien zijn eigenlijk drie versies van één naaipatroon. Ze starten allemaal met hetzelfde bovenstukje. Broer en zusjes, elk met hun eigen persoonlijkheid.

Are you still following? No? Then let me tell you a bit more about my three very first patterns: Lena, Fons & Sien.
Lena, Fons and Sien are three sewing pattern versions, each developed starting from the same “top part”. Brother and sisters, yet each with their own personalities.

Drie jaar geleden werd LENA geboren. Lena was een gratis naaipatroon dat, zo bleek na een tijdje, mijn blog (die toen nog WenSJe heette) de wereld ingestuurd heeft. Dat is iets waar ik nu, nu WISJ designs al een tijd mijn eigen bedrijfje is, nog elke dag dankbaar voor ben. Deze gratis versie van Lena staat nog op de blog, maar ze werd enkele maanden geleden hertekend en uitgebreid samen met Fons tot het Fons & Lena patroon: een betere pasvorm, meer maten (12m – 14j), een versie voor zowel stretch als geweven stoffen, een optie voor rimpels (naast de gekende plooi). Dat is Lena! Een wijd speelproof jurkje met een hoog bovenstukje met aangeknipte mouwen met rimpels of plooi.

Three years ago, LENA was born. Lena was a free sewing pattern, that appeared to have launched my blog (which was back then called WenSJe). Something for which I’m now, now that WISJ designs has been my own small business for a while, still very grateful for every day.
Although this free version is still available, Lena has been upgraded and expanded together with Fons a few months ago and resulted in the Fons & Lena pattern: a better fit, more sizes (12mo to 14y), a version for both stretch and woven fabrics, option with gathers in addition to the pleat option. That is Lena! A playproof dress with high cut top piece, with dropped shoulders and with gathers or pleat.

De FONS shirt werd iets later geboren, samen met de Sien jurk. Fons & Sien werd een nieuw gratis patroon, gebaseerd op het bovenstukje van het Lena patroon: een unisex shirt en een jurkje met rimpelrok. Fons & Sien werd genoemd naar mijn grootmoeder, Alfonsine. Zij leerde me naaien en zij deed het mij voor, dat ‘ondernemen’. Ze had een prachtige, kleine kruidenierswinkel in het centrum van Ieper waar ze ongelofelijk fier op was. Onlangs vertelde ik haar over mijn eigen winkel en dat die gestart is met iets dat zij me leerde, maar jammer genoeg begrijpt ze het niet echt meer. Je snapt wel dat dit specifieke patroon er eentje is dat nauw aan mijn hart ligt. Ook van dit patroon is de gratis versie nog steeds beschikbaar, maar FONS kreeg dus samen met Lena een stevige upgrade in het Fons & Lena patroon: diezelfde betere pasvorm, meer maten én een colorblock versie.

The FONS shirt was born a little while later, together with the Sien dress. Fons & Sien was a free pattern, based on the top piece of the Lena pattern: a unisex shirt and a gathered dress. Fons & Sien was named after my grandma, Alfonsine, who taught me how to sew and whose footsteps I’m now following trying to run my own business. She owned the most beautiful, small grocery store in the middle of Ypres city and she was so proud of it. She’s still around and I told her all about my own shop last time I saw her, but sadly… she’s not really able to process it all anymore, you know.😢 You can see why this specific pattern is one close to my heart. The free version of Fons & Sien is also still available but Fons got an upgrade, together with Lena in the Fons & Lena pattern: that same better fit, more sizes and a color block version.

En wat gebeurde er dan met SIEN? Wel, op dat moment dacht ik dat het niet nodig was om die optie toe te voegen, dat het zichzelf wel uitwees. Dus Sien kreeg even verlof. Maar de voorbije maanden werd hier blijkbaar enorm gemist. En daarom… is ze nu terug! Sien is een jurkje dat bestaat uit een ingekorte Fons shirt als bovenstukje en een rokdeel dat aan dit bovenstukje gerimpeld wordt. Zo eenvoudig, maar eigenlijk best plezant om te maken. Je hebt dus het Fons & Lena patroon nodig én de gratis Sien jurk add-on om dit jurkje te maken.

And what happened to SIEN? Well, at the time I thought it wasn’t necessary to add this option and that it was self-explanatory. So Sien was given a leave of absence. But apparently, she has been missed quite often the last few months. That’s why… she’s back! Sien is a dress that consists of the shortened Fons shirt as top piece and a gathered skirt piece attached to the top. That simple! But actually a lot of fun to make! You’ll need the Fons & Lena pattern and the free Sien dress add-on to make this dress.

Voor Jente naaide ik er alvast ééntje uit de ‘rust stripes’ tricot van Elvelyckan design. Ik naaide er vorig jaar een Ada voor Isa uit (wat kan het kwaad om nog wat meer namen in deze blogpost te gooien, dacht ik zo). Nu lag er nog een metertje klaar, te roepen om een Sien. Ik speelde met de richting van de streepjes et voilà, het werd het simpelste speeljurkje ooit. Dat gaat hier van aan het wasrek recht over haar hoofd. Ik vind haar er heel vrolijk mee. Maar ooooh wat een verschil met die eerste Sien die ik naaide voor haar…

My first ‘new Sien’ is for Jente. One from the ‘rust stripes’ jersey from Elvelyckan design. I sewed an Ada for Isa from this fabric (what’s the harm in adding more names to this blogpost?). And now there was another meter staring at me, waiting for it to become a Sien dress. I played with the direction of the stripes et voilà, the easiest play dress ever. She looks so cheerful in it! But ooooh what a difference with this very first Sien dress I sewed her…

Lang verhaal kort: Sien is dus beschikbaar als gratis add-on in de webshop! Er is een patroondeel te downloaden, maar wie niet wil knippen en plakken, kan gewoon de afmetingen aflezen in de tabel van de tutorial.

Long story short: Sien is now available as a free add-on in the webshop! There’s a A4 printable pattern piece, but for those of you who don’t like to cut and tape, just read the measurements in the table in the tutorial.

En kijk, daar is de Fons shirt met lange mouwen! Ja hoor, heel binnenkort is een ook een gratis mouwen add-on voor Fons & Lena en voor Sien dus ook natuulijk.

And look, there is the Fons shirt with long sleeves! Yes, very soon, there’ll be a free sleeves add-on for Fons & Lena and for Sien too of course.
